Two adults, four kids, fourteen miles, 12 sore feet, and epic views of the Bay Area.
This past weekend we decided to take the youngest members of our family out for a pretty tough day hike. We're planning to visit Yosemite later this month, so this was a "trial run" of sorts to test their will and endurance. After climbing 3800 feet in elevation, these kids were super tired, but super proud of their accomplishment. We learned that we need to have a solution on hand for carrying our youngest for short periods (to keep her from getting too tired) when we hike from now on. I thought my babywearing days were over... I was wrong! Also, we can't really count on them to help carry the supplies if we intend for them to last a full day on the trail. So a couple amazon purchases later, I think it's possible that we'll do alright next time. What about you? Have you done significant hiking with kids before? If so, drop your best tip for me in the comment section below.
